Julia M. Smith

Julia M. Smith, 94, of Washington, died at 4:32 a.m. Friday at Daviess Community Hospital.

Born Sept. 3, 1920, in Marion County, she was the daughter of Fred and Rellamae (Eoff) Schmidt.

She attended Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. She was a homemaker and loving mother. A member of the Moose Lodge, Protected Home Circle, Welcome Wagon and a bowling league, she enjoyed sewing and gardening.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Sedam (Wally) of Homosassa, Florida, and Dorinda Edwards of Washington; two sons, Jeffrey Smith (Dianne) of Lexington, Indiana, and Russell Smith (Debbie) of Washington; grandchildren, Kenneth Clark (Wanda), Tom Wilson, Lorena Stewart (Daryl), Michelle May (Mark) Joddi Edwards, Jeffrey Smith Jr. (Laura) Nicole O’Connor (Chris), Joshua Smith (Christy) Heather Gabral (Louie), and Amber Wright (Tim); 19 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Carl Schmidt (Mary).
Her husband, James Phillip “Phil” Smith, whom she married Dec. 2, 1945, is deceased. Also deceased are three grandchildren, Dennis Wilson, Terri Wilson and Christopher Downs; and siblings, William Frederick Schmidt, Gordon Schmidt, Kathryn Richey, Virginia Walker and Nancy Andre.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gill Funeral Home, with John Cease officiating.
Burial will be in Sugarland Memory Gardens.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
