Kenneth Myers, 85, died in the ICU at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville Thursday evening surrounded by his wife Carolyn and their family.
Kenny was born in Monroe City Aug. 31, 1929, to Herschel and Eldena (Sturgeon) Myers. His grandparents were Curtis and Julia (Ravelette ) Myers of Monroe City and Mabin and Catherine (Yarbrough) Sturgeon of Washington. They all preceded him in death as did his stepfather James Parker of Monroe City and his parents-in-law Rev. John Austin and Mrs. Grace (Tharp) Hand of Otwell.
Kenny graduated from Monroe City High School in 1948 and from the Chicago Industrial Training Institute in 1956 and began his career repairing and selling televisions. He owned Quality Electronic in Petersburg until he retired in 1997.
Kenny married the love of his life, Carolyn Sue Hand, on July 21, 1956, at the Otwell Tabernacle Church (now the Wesleyan Church) which was pastored by Carolyn’s father who officiated the wedding.
Kenny was a member of the Contenders of Faith Mission in Otwell which was founded by his father-in-law. He spent his last Sunday morning in church.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn and son Dr. Jeff Myers of Merritt Island, Florida, along with his wife Erin and daughters Bethany and Grace; son Kevin Myers of Petersburg, son Dr. John Myers of Evansville along with his wife Jennifer and daughters Ashlyn and Jessica, and son Dr. Kip Myers of Bloomington, along with his wife Connie and daughter Kate.
Kenny is also survived by his sisters, Beverly Hightower of Camarillo, California, Sara Bachman of Washington, Barbara Myers of Vincennes, and Beverly Bremer of Mt. Vernon.
The visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Harris Funeral Home, Petersburg. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg.
