Donald M. Black “Buck” passed away April 12, 2014; he was 101 years old.
He was born on January 10, 1914 in Wheatland, Indiana to the late Arthur W. Black and Anna Belle Black (Cain). He graduated from Wheatland High School in 1931 and attended college at Indiana University. On July 30, 1949 he married Barbara Black (Welton).
On April 1941 he was inducted into the United States Army. He was a First Sergeant in Company B of the 113th Medical Battalion. His campaigns included New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and Luzon. He received many decorations and citations including; American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic- Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and the Bronze Arrowhead Victory Medal. Buck was a member of the VFW and loved to play cards. He was a life long farmer in Knox County and enjoyed having coffee with his “Steamer” buddies every morning.
He is survived by his nephews, Harry Hanson (Mary Lou), Henry Black (Doris), William Black (Kate), Fredrick Black, Steven Black, Leland Black (Barbara), and a niece Sara St. John (Jim). His special friends Tim and Michelle Guy. Several Great Nieces and Nephews, and Great-Grand Nieces and Nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents, and his siblings; Henry Black, Violet Hanson, Kenny Black, and his twin Doris Possman.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home April 15, 2015 Wednesday at 1:00 with Reverend Cheryl Thorne officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 til 1:00.
