Agriculture experts are set to provide an update on how this month’s heavy rains and flooding have affected crops across Indiana.
Officials from Purdue University and government agencies scheduled a briefing today at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis to discuss an initial assessment of the crop damage.
Purdue Extension Director Jason Henderson says the full magnitude of the crop damage isn’t clear yet but that various programs are available to help farmers manage and recover from their losses.
Parts of Indiana have seen 8 inches or more of rain during June, which has swamped some farm fields. The National Weather Service says lowland flooding will continue into next week along the Wabash and White rivers and some tributaries in southwestern Indiana.
