John R. Hunt

 
John R. Hunt, 75, of  Loogootee, Indiana passed away on Monday, August 24th, 2015 at 4:56 pm at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper, Indiana.
 
He was born May 6, 1940 in Loogootee, IN to the late Russell and Lucille (Gosnell) Hunt.
 
John was the owner of Hunts Steamer Café. He was a past Sheriff of Martin County and a past Chief of Police for the City of Loogootee. He was a supervisor for the Bureau of Motor Vehicle. He was a member of the Loogootee City Council and was the Clerk of Martin Circuit Court. He was currently employed by Traylor Trucking in Montgomery.
 
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of the Lodge, Masons, Hadi Shriner, Fraternal Order of Police, Indiana Sheriffs Association Board of Trustees, President of Jaycees, Moose Club, Eagles, Democratic County Chairman, Independent Order of the Odd Fellows and Gold Wing Association.
 
John enjoyed camping, motorcycles, Loogootee Lion sports and going to his kids and grandkids sporting events.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Lucille (Gosnell) Hunt; sister, Diana (Ed) Harder; brother, Jim Hunt; brothers-in-law, Junior (Joyce) Inman, Charlie Wagoner, Pat Stuffle, Don Spaulding and Chet Majeski; sister-in-law, Betty (Web) Kelso.
 
John is survived by his wife, Sue (Inman) Hunt; son, John Hunt of Loogootee; daughters, Bobbi Sue (Brent) Nonte, Nikki (Pat) Wagoner, Tara (Ryan) Lengacher all of Loogootee; 22 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; siblings, Peggy Spaulding, Carolyn (Richard) Taylor, William (Kay) Hunt, Larry (Angel) Hunt and Darryl (Debby) Hunt; brothers-in-law, Terry (Alice) Inman and Jack (Karen) Inman; sisters-in-law, Iris Wagoner, Sharon Stuffle, Charlotte (Lloyd) Resler and Pam Clark and nieces, nephews and cousins.
 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Reverend J. Kenneth Walker at 10:00AM on Friday, August 28, 2015 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
 
Visitation will be Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home.
 
Memorial contributions may be made to the Loogootee Athletic Department.
