The Daviess and Knox County Local Emergency Planning Committees have partnered with Duke Energy to conduct a preparedness drill on Thursday October 8th. The entities have spent months planning for a simulated hazardous substance release at Duke’s Edwardsport Power Plant.
Many local agencies will be a part of this planned drill including Fire, Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical, Solid Waste Management, Health Department, Hospital, and Emergency Management. The public should expect to see much traffic around the Duke-Edwardsport Generating Station on Thursday beginning at 8am and wrapping up around Noon.
Signs will be placed at road intersections reading that there is an exercise in progress. It is planned to test the Code Red Emergency Notification System for residents within 2 miles of the facility, the phone call will state clearly that this is a test only. Also, the facility notification sirens will be activated for the drill.
