Washington’ Bicentennial Celebration Co-Chairman Don Spillman told local Rotarians about plans for the Bicentennial Parade at Wednesday’s meeting. Spillman said the parade committee hopes to have the 1878 horse-drawn fire pumper and the 1924 Graham-Paige Fire Engine in shape to lead the parade on July 9. The 1878 pumper is one of only three of its kind in existence and, along with the 1924 Fire Engine, is housed in the museum area of the Washington Fire Department’s West End Station.
Spillman there’ll be a cash parade awarded to a participant of the parade and hopes many will get involved…
Also at yesterday’s Rotary meeting, Spillman talked about two prominent Washington natives, Judge David McDonald and Judge John S. Hastings. Spillman encouraged the community to establish a Washington Indiana Hall of Fame to honor prominent city natives.
