Norma Jean (Price) Woods, 87, of Loogootee, passed away at 4:25 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at her home.
She was born September 12, 1928 in Petersburg to the late Truman and Esta Marie (Wilhite) Price.
Norma Jean married James Woods in 1946 and he preceded her in death.
Norma and James moved to Washington briefly, and finally settled in Loogootee after Mr. Woods found work in town. Norma was an active member in the community. She was a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star, a 1st Mother Advisor to the Rainbows for Girls, the President of the local American Cancer Society Chapter, the chairman of the Daffodil Day, a member of the Loogootee United Methodist Church, taught Caring Friends Sunday School class, a past president of the Loogootee Women’s Club, a member of the Martin County Marco Singers Choir and the Euchre Club.
She also was a business owner, running Laurie’s Flowers and Gifts and the Clothesline Dress Shop. Prior to owning businesses she was employed at RCA in Bloomington, the Reliance Factory in Loogootee, Home Loan and Finance, Amway Distribution, Pearl Level.
Norma also was a committed Loogootee Lions fan. She and her late husband often attended basketball games, both at home and out of town. Norma’s motto in life was “Get up, dress up and show up.” She loved to cook and entertain company.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Woods; children, Larry Woods and Lana Walton.
Norma is survived by her son, James “Mike” Woods of Loogootee; daughter, Rebecca (Oscar) Allbright of Loogootee; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Carol Gregory of Washington.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Loogootee United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Loogootee United Methodist Church in Loogootee.
