Daviess County Courthouse Construction Continues…

The Daviess County Courthouse has two projects underway to improve the aging building. According to the Washington Times Herald, some problems have arisen in the construction process. One is with the ADA accessible ramp entrance. Huge piles of dirt are located on the east side of the courthouse, as crews found a problem with the soil. The soil was too soft to build a structure on. Crews have had to add several tons of stone to compensate for the soft soil. Daviess County Commissioner President Michael Taylor says the ramp construction is “going back in the right direction now.” The second project pertains to the skylight and stained glass above the atrium. They will be repaired and replaced. However, a plan to reuse the stained glass did not work, so new stained glass will be used instead. Construction will continue inside with upgrades to the basement restrooms. Taylor said he hopes the projects will be wrapping up in September or October.
