Harriet T. Byrer, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Saturday at the age of 79, surrounded by her loving family at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon.
She was born on Aug. 4, 1936, in Washington, to Matthew J. and Zollah (Mattingly) Butcher. Harriet married her wonderful husband of 64 years, Ferman Dee “Sailor” Byrer, on Aug. 9, 1952.
Harriet was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bramble. She worked as an explosives handler at Crane and at Ketcham Memorial Center in housekeeping. Harriet loved to play euchre and all cards in general.
Harriet is survived by her children, Mike Byrer, Patty (Alan) Dyer, both of Plainville, and Brenda (Jerry) Edelman of Bloomfield; grandchildren Josh, Seth and Shane Dyer, Angie (Wes) Milner, Jason (Tara) Edelman, Donetta (Brad Kaiser) Drieman; and great-grandchildren Dalton, Briley, Briley, John, Katelyn, Emma, Brianna, Cole and Brianna.
Preceding Harriet in death is her husband, Ferman Byrer, on June 23, 2016; one son, Eddie Byrer; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon, with grandson Seth Dyer officiating. Harriet will be laid to rest in Kilgore Cemetery in Raglesville.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
