Architects give an overview of the early stages of the renovation project.
The South Knox School Board heard an update last night on SPARTA 2018. That’s the project name for the multi-million dollar renovation of the elementary and middle/high schools.
According to the Vincennes Sun Commercial, architects with Schmidt Associates of Indianapolis reported the firm is currently doing surveys of both buildings and spending time meeting with individual staff members. Anne Marie Burrell told the board they already have an overall input from staff and are working to understand people’s different areas and what their needs and hopes are. Burrell said the bidding process could start in February of next year.
The Sun Commercial say some changes include a maker space being planned for the middle/high school to be used by faculty for whatever use they want. Renovations at the middle/high school also include turning the current cafeteria into administrative offices with a new and bigger cafeteria added to the back of the 50-year-old building. At the elementary, 8,000 additional square feet is being planned for a band room, a multipurpose room and two new pre-k rooms. Overall an estimated $12.8 million would be spent upgrading the middle/high school and $2.3 million would be spent at the elementary school.
