Fred A. Overton, 93, of Odon, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Terre Haute, Indiana.
He was born on February 10, 1923 in Daviess County, Indiana to Bill and Valda (Sims) Overton.
Fred was a US Army World War II Veteran and a Purple Heart Recipient. He was a member of the Odon VFW Post #9627 and Elnora American Legion. Fred was retired from the Crane Naval Base. He was an avid historian on World War II and he enjoyed looking into the Overton family genealogy. Fred loved writing articles about the different experiences he had in his life and having them published in the Odon Journal each week.
Survivors include: two daughters, Shelly Overton of Evansville and Gloria Jane Scott of Terre Haute; three grandchildren, Zach (Emily) Overton of Terre Haute, Mandy (Evan) Smith of Coalmont and Jama Pate of Plainville; six great-grandchildren, Adalyn and Aven Smith, Easton Overton, Tiffany Demoss, Christopher Demoss and Amber Pate; four great-great-grandchildren, Hailee Demoss, Brody Smith, Kaleb Carrico and Ryder White; sister, Marge (Dick) Shehee of Odon and longtime family friend, Jake Abrams.
Fred was preceded in death by: his parents; two wives, Rosemary Overton and Mary Evelyn (McBride) Overton; son, Kelly F. Overton; two brothers, Kenny and Bill Overton.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon with Pastor David Smith officiating. Fred will be laid to rest in the Raglesville Cemetery.
Family and friends may call from 12:00 PM until time of service at 3:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
