Busy Saturday on tap in Daviess County with the K 0f C drawing, Devonshires concert, Odon Pumpkin Festival and Friends for Animals Fundraiser.
K OF C AND DEVONSHIRE EVENTS ARE TONIGHT
Be cautious and courteous tonight. Thousands are expected again in downtown Washington as the Knights of Columbus Treasure Hunt Jackpot draw continues. Over 700-thousand dollars is in the big jackpot tonight along with half pot drawing worth over 900 dollars each. It’s a downtown street fair atmosphere each week with food and drink available, but again be kind and careful in the fun. The drawing is at 6:30.
At 7:30 tonight the Washington Bicentennial Community Concert Series continues with The Devonshires. For decades The Devonshires have been entertaining audiences in cities and towns across the U.S. Their shows are performed with exceptional musical precision, fully costumed with props and skits and suitable and fun for all ages. The band is made-up of an all-star cast of brothers/musicians. They will be debuting a brand new show tonight centered around the Legends of Rock. They’ll perform the music you hear right here on classic hits every day. Tickets are 10 dollars you can get them at the door. So after the draw at the K of C head on over to Washington High School for this big event.
FRIENDS FOR ANIMALS 2
The local Friends for Animals…animal rescue group…will have their annual soup supper and auction fundraiser on Saturday. There’s lots of things to bid on with proceeds going to help the organization Gary Mattes tells what what the funds are used for…
The evening begins at 5 with your soup, drink and desert for five dollars. The auction starts at 6. The group has been together for about 8 or 10 years Mattes says and in that time they’ve rescued 2500 animals from the local shelter.
PUMPKIN FEST
The Odon Pumpkin Festival kicks off today with a Pumpkin Candy Drop at 12pm. Other events in downtown Odon are a pumpkin pie eating contest, seed spitting contest. There’s lots more after that according to Gina Wagler with the Odon Business Alliance..
There’s wagon, train and pony rides, a bounce house, pumpkin decorating. A corn hole tourney where you could win $150. There’ll be around 40 vendors on hand so lots to eat and drinkat the festival. Again it all starts at noon in downtown Odon.
FACTORY APPROVAL UPDATE
Washington Mayor Joe Wellman says even though the Washington Plan Commission has approved plans for the construction of a plant in the I69 Corridor east of Washington, does not mean M and C Tech of Indiana….a Japanese based company is coming. Wellman urges cautious optimism according to the Washington Times Herald. He says the commission has approved the conceptual design but there has not been a formal announcement of the company locating in the new EZ zoning district near the interstate. The proposed plant would make rubber products for the automotive industry. The plans approved included the possibility of 43 people being employed at the facility within the first three years. It would be located near the new cross dock facility on County road 200-East on the north side of the CSX tracks.
EARLY VOTING
Early voting got underway Wednesday across the state. If you can’t vote election day or just want to vote before then you can go to your county clerk’s office and vote during regular hours. The Daviess County Courthouse is closed on weekends but they will be open on the two Saturdays prior to the election which is October 29th and November 5th. Election day is a little late this year. It’s always the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. This year that is November 8th. The Daviess County Clerk’s Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 to 4. It’ll be open the 29th and November 5th from 8 to 3 You can vote by mail too. For more on that call 812-254-8679. Mail in ballots need to be returned to the clerk by October 31st.
