4H talks to the commissioners about moving and expanding

The Washington 4H Board is currently looking for property to expand their facilities.
In a special Daviess County Commissioners meeting Monday night, the board met with the commissioners to bring them up to date on the current status.     The board has determined they need around 35 acres or so.
The reasons for wanting to expand are many including the continued growth of the 4H.  It has over 420 members currently, that’s 100 more than 2007.  The current 4H grounds located at East Side Park is only 7 acres in size and room is running out.   President of the 4H Board, Brandon Hess, said the idea is to have an area that could be utilized throughout the year for a variety of uses and functions and events by more than just 4H as opposed to the current grounds which is only used two weeks out of the year and only by 4H

Hess, says they recently explored property east of town behind Hoeflings.  However, he said that property was not going to meet their needs…

There was discussion last night of an area near the airport. That possibility will be explored more in the future.
Eventually Hess said it would be nice to have the 4H show and County Fair combine. That’s an idea that has been talked about for years…

The commissioners advised 4H to continue searching for a piece of property in the county.  The commissioners were in support of the expansion and in the idea of a combined fair.
