Ruth (Hinkle) Bateman

Ruth (Hinkle) Bateman, 96, of Washington, passed away Saturday.
 

Born March 21, 1920, in Steele Township, Daviess County, she was the daughter of the late Harry A. and Lizzie (Gross) Hinkle.
Orphaned at the age of two, she was raised by an aunt and uncle, Thomas and Millie Gross. She graduated from Plainville High School. She married Cecil Bateman on March 24, 1940. She was a member of Bethel (Otterbein) United Methodist Church, Golden Rule Sunday school class, the Get Together Homemakers Club, was past president of Daviess County Homemakers Club, and was a 4-H leader for 12 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty (Leo) Schlotter; her sons, Reldon (Dana) Bateman and C. Leroy (Elizabeth) Bateman; grandsons Rex Bateman and Chad (Jennifer) Schlotter; granddaughters Leni (Tracy) Walls, Dee (Steve) McKinzie, Diane Boger, Julie Seal, Darla (Mike) Burgoyne, Polly (Steve) Bullock, Mandy (Carl) Boyles and Tammy (Jason) Brown; 20 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; foster parents Millie and Thomas Gross; and four brothers, Clifford, Ralph, Odius and Kenneth Hinkle.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Gill Funeral Home, with Pastor Bruce Mowery officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. A private burial will be at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Bethel United Methodist Church.
