Two vehicles were totaled in a three car crash at 5:14 last evening on Mills Street North of 36th Street in Jasper.
56-year-old Chris Kern of Loogootee was north traveling at what police say was a high rate of speed. His 2002 Buick Century hit the rear of a Chevy Truck driven by 29-year-old Nicholas Ferguson of Jasper. Ferguson pulled over and Kern continued north and hit the rear of a 2003 Eclipse driven by 55-year-old Douglas Schmitt of Loogootee. Schmitt’s car went left of center, off the west side and came to rest in a field. Kern’s car continued through the intersection of Dubois County Road 400-north and came to rest after hitting a guardrail.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says that Kern’s driving behavior may have been because of a medical condition. Kern and Schmitt’s vehicles were a total loss and Ferguson’s truck had $2500 damage.
Kern was taken to Memorial Hospital for pain to the shoulder, Schmitt suffered a cut to the head and refused medical treatment. Fergusonhttp://vincennes.mugshot.press/ and a passenger were not injured.
