With an eye on increasing enrollments, Washington’s School Board capped the number of students allowed to transfer into the system from other school districts at Thursday’s meeting.
During the coming school year only 10 transfer students per grade will be accepted into the Washington School system. The Washington Community Schools are one of the few non-urban school systems to see continued growth in its student population and there is limited space for students who live outside the district boundaries to transfer into the Washington Schools. In personnel matters, the Board accepted the resignation of Lena Dunn teacher, Ashley Roach and approved hiring teachers Hannah Nichols, Rebecca Bircher, and Doug Ubelhor.
The Board also adopted Science textbooks. Asst. Superintendent Kevin Frank told the Board that each grade level had a digital component. Frank also said the adoption committee tried to keep book prices at or below current levels.
In other business, Board members adopted Elementary and Secondary fees for the coming year and renewed Sudexo’s contract to provide food and maintenance services for another year.
