David C. Vowell, 78 of Washington, IN passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on June 26, 2017.
David was born July 30, 1938. He was the son of the late Melvin Keith and Beulah (Crews) Vowell. He graduated from Washington High School in 1956. He served in the US Army as a PFC. He was employed by Jones and Sons, Inc and retired after 45 years of service. During his retirement, Dave was a meticulous woodworker who took great pride in making many beautiful pieces of furniture which will be cherished for generations to come. David was a member of Alfordsville Christian Church, the American Legion, and a fellowship member of the Washington Moose Lodge. He married Carol Hornaday on September 22, 1963 and she preceded him in death on November 23, 1987. He married Charlotte (Godwin) Vowell on November 24, 1992 and she survives.
David is survived by his wife Charlotte, daughters Cheryl (Rodney) Harner and Marsha (John) Clarke both of Washington, step children Mark Smith of Washington, Patrick Smith (Peter Coleridge) of Toronto, Canada, Melisa (Jim) Mozer of Troy, OH, and Travis Reel of Washington, 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and sisters Mary Ann (Thomas) Rader of Cedar Falls, IA, Donna K. Burger of Washington and 14 nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for David will take place on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 11am at Gill Funeral Home, 308 E. Walnut Street, Washington, IN 47501. Friends may call on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 4-8pm at the funeral home, and also 10-11 prior to the service.
