The new State Representative in District 63 is Shane Lindauer of Jasper. He and Washington City Councilman Jerry Sidebottom were the only two were up for the seat being vacated by Mike Braun of Jasper. Braun resigned to concentrate on a race for US Senate. Today is his last day as a state lawmaker. Lindauer was appointed by a Republican Caucus held last night in Jasper.
Lindauer is a ’92 graduate of Jasper High School, a veteran of the Indiana and Missouri National Guard. He has a private chiropractic practice and is part owner Jasper Salvage, a family owned business. He served four years on the Dubois County Council from 2010 to 2011 through 2015.
In his short speech before the vote by the caucus, Lindauer said three things give him passion to serve in the legislature. Those are that government doesn’t create wealth and lawmakers should be judicious in how taxpayer money is spent. He also said he believes strongly in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and says he’s pro-life. He also said local government is generally the best place for government to take place.
Lindauer had earlier this year announced intentions to run for the seat he now holds. He is the third man from Jasper to hold the District 63 seat in recent years.
District 63 includes portions of Daviess, Dubois, Pike and Martin Counties.
