Elnora annexation plan not looking good

An annexation plan in Elnora looks dim. That’s a headline in this week’s Odon Journal.

The newspaper reports that at last week’s Elnora Town Board Special Meeting on the matter it was learned that a developer did not agree with an engineer’s estimate of 1.6 million dollars for the town of Elnora to pay for a project.  Board President Jessie Emmons say the only way the town could afford it is if the developer sells bonds on his own and money from the Tax Increment Finance Zone pays the bonds off.

The plan was to annex a strip of land south of the I69 Exit at State Road 58 for a business development reported to possibly be a truck stop and possibly more.  Emmons says efforts now are in the hands of the development.  It was also mentioned that traffic counts in the area may not be high enough to warrant a project.
