EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — City officials are planning to spend nearly $2.8 million toward building a new dock and visitor center near downtown Evansville for a restored World War II naval vessel that’s been based in the city since 2005.
Officials say the money will come from the city’s riverboat gaming fund, which has about $28 million available.
Deputy Mayor Steve Schaefer tells the Evansville Courier & Press that costly changes must be made at the Ohio River dock previously used by the Tropicana Evansville casino riverboat to meet Army Corp of Engineers regulations.
Tropicana paid $25 million to the fund as it moved to a new on-shore casino last year.
