(NETWORK INDIANA) Indiana Democrat Senator Joe Donnelly says he “had a wide-ranging conversation and productive meeting” with Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
“This was an important opporntunity to sit down and talk in-depth with Judge Kavanaugh,” Donnely said in a statement.
He added he and Kavanaugh talked about his record, his time in the Bush White House, and serving on the federal bench. They also touched on his views on the role of the Supreme Court.
Donnelly is one of only a handful of Senate Democrats that had planned to meet with Kavanaugh.
“I take my responsibility as Senator to consider Supreme Court nominees very seriously,” Donnelly said. “Hoosiers rightly expect careful and thoughtful consideration of a nomination to our nation’s highest court.”
He did not say whether or not he will vote to confirm Kavanuagh to the Supreme Court just yet. Donnelly added that he will keep doign his homework and “make a decision sometime after Kavanaugh’s committee confirmation hearing.”
Donnelly voted to confirm President Trump’s previous Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch.
