Search crews find man, 71, who got lost during squirrel hunt

Indiana conservation officers say a 71-year-old Indianapolis man who went missing during a squirrel hunting trip has been found unharmed after getting lost in the Hoosier National Forest.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says George Kuntz was found Monday morning by crews after a search spanning about 24 hours. The DNR says Kuntz was thirsty and disoriented but in good health and was reunited with relatives about 11 a.m.

He had gone squirrel hunting Sunday morning in the Monroe County portion of the 200,000-acre national forest that spans several southern Indiana counties.

Relatives alerted the DNR after Kuntz didn’t return to a campground in the forest’s Hardin Ridge Recreation Area, just southeast of Bloomington.

Searchers on foot were assisted by a State Police helicopter and a fire department’s drone.
