LaVaughn “Bon” DeHon, 85, passed away at 7:30 pm on September 16, 2018 at Gentle Care Nursing Home. LaVaughn was born on September 16, 1933 in Vincennes. She married Maurice “Bud” DeHon on July 8, 1955 and he preceded her in death on May 5, 2012.
LaVaughn was a graduate of Vincennes Lincoln High School, Vincennes University and Indiana State University. She taught school at numerous elementary schools in Illinois and Indiana including Vincennes Flaget Elementary. She concluded her teaching career at Vincennes University. LaVaughn was the first Director of Head Start in Vincennes and a long- time member of First United Methodist Church as well as a devoted member of the Chancel Choir. She was also a member of Tri-Kappa. LaVaughn had many, many friends and the Golden Girls were especially dear to her heart.
LaVaughn is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Maurice “Bud”; brother Richard Raney; and sisters, Ruth Raney Althoff and Edna Raney Bricker.
Friends may visit with LaVaughn’s family from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Friday, September 21, 2018 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway. LaVaughn’s funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm Friday at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Matt Swisher officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
