(NETWORK INDIANA) A mysterious blast heard and felt all around the Irvington area on Indy’s east side has neighbors on edge.
Police do not know who or what is responsible. It happened Wednesday night on East Washington Street near Bolton Avenue.
The blast went off in the median, leaving a hole more than 1 foot wide and 3 feet long. The damage was not extensive, but the impact was widespread.
To say Jesse Noble is a bit eccentric is an understatement.
“I have a saying; it goes ‘God is great, beer is good and people are crazy,'” Noble said and then laughed.
Maybe more strange is what happened about a block from Noble’s home.
“It was horrendous. It was like kaboom,” said Noble. “You could hear the windows rattle from that distance. It was a pretty strong whatever.”
“Whatever” may be the best way of describing it. Phil Pash was driving on East Washington Street and happened to have dashcam rolling. In the video you can see the explosion. It’s so powerful that his camera came off of its mount.
“Minding my own business, when I got just almost to the end of the grass island. Something in the island blew up,” Pash said.
He was not injured. In fact, his vehicle was not even damaged.
“I thought it was a transformer blowing up,” Pash said.
It was not a transformer or a manhole explosion. So, what was it?
“I think somebody just threw a bomb out their dang window of their car and kept going and blew it up. It could be a test or something. Who knows, maybe they’re testing their bombs, I don’t know,” Noble said.
Authorities could not confirm if it was or was not a bomb. Indianapolis Fire Department’s Rita Reith said she does not believe, however, that the public is in danger.
“As to the cause of what caused that? Absolutely no idea. They stuck around. No injuries. No property damage. No fire,” Reith said.
While there may be no injuries, property damage or fire, there are certainly some out of the norm circumstances.
