Last Friday was the deadline to file run in the Primary Municipal Election. Washington residents will be voting for a new mayor and essentially a new city council.
The Republican ballot is full as current GOP Mayor Joe Wellman is not seeking re-election. Three people who currently serve in city government are looking to get the city’s top position. Building Commission Don Williams, City Councilman Jerry Sidebottom and Board of Works member Diana Snyder are the candidates.
With Sidebottom running for Mayor that leaves District 3 open. Tom Gress and Clarissa Cornelius are vying for that seat on the Republican Ticket. Councilman Mike Singleton is not seeking re-election so his District 1 seat is up and Darin Lunsford and Andrew Heidenreich are on the GOP ballot.
City Council District 2 is currently held by Allen Brown he is seeking re-election and is challenged by fellow Republican Eric Headley. In the 5th District Republican Incumbant Searirra Decker is challenged by David Eskew and City Electric Department Superintendent Randy Emmons.
Beth McGookey is seeking re-election to the City Clerk-Treasurer position.
On the Democrat Side, Democrat Dave Rhoads, the city Fire Chief is running for Mayor. Fourth District Councilman Doug Campton is seeking re-election. Ron Critchlow and Ernie Evans are running for Council At-Large.
Running for City Clerk for the Democrats is Lauri Jensen.
The election is May 7th.
