Mr. Richard “Dick” H. Smith

Mr. Richard “Dick” H. Smith 89, of Washington went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 17, 2019 while his family was at his side.
Richard was born in Bloomington, IN. February 5, 1930 to the late Everett and Cassie May (Kerr) Smith.
Richard was a 1949 graduate of Bloomington University High School and then entered into the U.S. Navy; after serving his tour in the United States Armed Forces he completed a bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry from Purdue University. Richard was an avid outdoors-man and athlete; He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, running, and wood carving. Richard was also a devoted Boilermaker fan who rarely missed a game!
Richard was hired by Graham Farms shortly after graduating Purdue University; He then was employed by the Indiana State Board of Health as a Dairy Inspector, until his retirement. Richard was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Ann (Berck) Smith, and his siblings; John Smith, Ross Smith, Everett Smith Jr., Marie Conard, Ruth Libkie, and Mary Francis Smith.
Survivors include; one son, Michael Scott Smith (Susan); three daughters, Linda Gail Barnard, Denise Marie Schwandner, and Nancy Ann Cornelius (Bill); several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. James Harvey Smith (Joanne); one sister, Sarah Joan Kennedy (Donald); a sister-in-law, Kay Smith; and a brother-in-law, Everett Libkie.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in Gill Funeral Chapel with a service following on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sugarland Memory Gardens Cemetery. You may leave an online condolence at www.gillsince1872.com.
