WPD to target aggressive drivers

It’s March, and as reported last week, law enforcement agencies across the state are beefing up patrols to catch those who drive aggressively. The Washington Police Department is among the 230 agencies warning drivers of the patrols and participating in overtime traffic enforcement funded through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grant money.
Washington Police Sgt. Case Cummings says “the rules of the road are not only the law; they are designed to help all reach their destination safely and efficiently.  He says by warning drivers of the patrols, the aim is to prevent unsafe driving and safe lives.
Failing to yield the right of way is said to be one of the top causes of crashes that can lead to injury or death. Following too close and unsafe lane changes are also top causes of serious accidents.  Unsafe speed, driving too fast for the weather and disregarding traffic signals are other offenses that can cause damage and tragedy.  Young people, men especially are said to be more likely to engage in unsafe driving.
