Larry Peek, 76, of Loogootee, passed away at 6:10 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2019 at Loogootee Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born July 1st, 1942 in Lafayette, Indiana to the late Joseph Ray Peek and Mary Ellen (Day) Richard.
Larry was a devoted family man who had many interests and loyalties. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, whether it was in the water of Newfoundland, Canada, during his Naval deployment there, or in the local lakes. Larry served in Vietnam and the Panama Canal while in the United States Navy. He retired from NSWC Crane after many years of employment.
He enjoyed coaching baseball in the Loogootee youth leagues and many boys he helped during those years still called him “Coach” when they saw him. A fan of the Loogootee Lions, he was a 50-year member of Lion Backers, and a long-time season ticket holder for boys basketball. Even in declining health, Larry listened to every game on the radio. He also supported Purdue basketball for many years, much to the dismay of his family members who were Indiana fans.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Ray Peek and Mary Ellen (Day) Richard and sister, Jean Gilliatt.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Doris (Gibson) Peek of Loogootee; children, Rodney Peek of Princeton, Scott (Lisa) Muench of Owensboro, Brian (Lourdes) Peek of Washington, Michael (Carrie) Muench of Thermopolis, Wyoming and Shawn Brown of Loogootee; special grandson, Tristan Horsting; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Nancy Sanders of Kentucky, Marcella (Ron) Thatcher of Worthington, Pat (Dave) Brandt of Florida, Marion (Neal) Jackson of Loogootee, Jeff (Chris) Slough of Spencer and Becky (Bruce) Moon of Plainfield.
