Indiana State Police report that Wednesday’s crash that killed an Evansville woman is still under investigation.
Late yesterday, the name of the deceased was released. Police report it was 43-year-old Heather Niemeier of Evansville who was driving north on I69 at mile marker 68 in Daviess County. She lost control of her vehicle, hit a guardrail and came to rest upside in the median area in a body of water up against a bridge pillar. The vehicle then burst into flames Niemier was pronounced dead at the scene at the scene. An autopsy revealed she died of drowning, secondary to the violent impact of the crash. Investigators are awaiting results of toxicology tests.
