Pike Co. man jailed after police chase

A driver was arrested after a 1.5 hour chase averaging 20 mph. ISP say local police were called when the driver tried to leave the scene of an accident around 2 am Saturday in Vincennes.    The intoxicated man, identified as 39-year-old Joshua Hyneman of Petersburg took off when police arrived and was set to have been fighting of passers-by who were trying to detain him.
Hyneman led police down Willow Street and onto US 41 South. State police said officers tried stop sticks several times, and did deflate one tire but Hyneman kept going. During the chase, Hyneman hit a pole along 241 South which fell across the road. Since the power lines were live, the officers behind him could not get out of their cars. A Gibson County Sheriff’s Deputy was waiting for the man at 241 and US 41.  Stop sticks were used again and another tire was deflated, but still Hyneman fled until his car stopped east of Hazelton.
Hyneman is charged with Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Reckless Driving, two counts of Leaving the Scene of an Accident and two counts of Operating While Intoxicated including with Endangerment.
