Jonas N. Schrock, 92, of Elnora, Indiana, went to Heaven, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at his residence. He was born on May 11, 1927 in Orrville, Ohio the son of Noah J. and Emma J. (Miller) Schrock. Jonas married Anna Viola Yoder on November 22, 1956.
Jonas was ordained minister in 1960 and ordained bishop in 1961. He was a member of Mt. Joy Mennonite Church. He loved the church and served the congregation until the age of 80. He was known by many as a brick mason who was missing a thumb and fingers on his left hand.
Family left behind to cherish the memory of Jonas include: three sons; Olen (Juanita) Schrock of Elnora, Thomas (Fae) Schrock of Elnora, and Marvin (Pam) Schrock of Sterling, Alaska. Two daughters; Mary Esther Schrock of Elnora, and Arlene (Luke) Rhodes of Newberry. One daughter-in-law Fan Schrock of Loogootee. Four sisters; Maryann Hershberger, Katie Rouse, Emma Shelter, and Viola Spence. Sisters-in-law; Esther Schrock, Sarah McGuire, and Lydiann Yoder. Jonas is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
Jonas was preceded in death by: his parents, wife Anna Viola Schrock (Dec. 2005), son Stephen Schrock (May 2017), two brothers; Pete and Levi Schrock, and five sisters; Edna, Dinah, Ella Mae Schrock, Lena Jackson, Polly Garver.
Funeral services are scheduled for 9:30 A.M. on Monday, June 24, 2019 at the Simon J. Graber Complex in rural Odon, with James Yoder officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Joy Cemetery in Raglesville, Indiana.
Family and friends may call from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00P.M. on both Saturday June 22, 2019 and Sunday June 23, 2019 at the Simon J. Graber Complex.
