City Council passes resolution to help with housing needs

The Washington City Council has passed a resolution to encourage needed housing projects.  The resolution would apply to rental projects of at least 25 units and would waive meter, tap-on, and permit fees.  The resolution would also require landlords to be co-applicants with the tenants for utility services.    The Mayor says the incentives are to encourage housing development.

In addition, an ordinance was introduced as the result of a request of the property owners and potential developers.  The ordinance would change the zoning of approximately 4.25 acres on the southwest corner of S.W. 5th and West Main, from Industrial to Commercial 2.  The action allows for the construction of a proposed townhouse complex on the location.
