On Sunday, July 7, 2019, Theresa E. Browning, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 86.
Theresa was born in Washington, IN to Dan and Adah (Mattingly) McAtee, on November 14, 1932. She attended Washington Catholic High School and was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. She married her high school sweetheart, Bill Browning, on April 9, 1951. She had seven children, eight grandchildren, and so many others that affectionately referred to her as Mom or Grandma. She prided herself in making sure everyone knew the door was always open at the Browning’s and you couldn’t leave without something to eat. She was happiest when her house was packed full of chaos, love, and laughter. She was a longtime member of the Golden Girls Card Club, part of the original Caring and Sharing Group at St. Mary’s, and a member of Daughters of Isabella. Theresa had a passion for Cardinals baseball and could typically be found at a local sporting event cheering on those she loved.
Theresa is survived by her sister Lucille Ray of Washington; four sons Jim(Pam), Jeff, Jay, and Jerry Browning all of Washington; daughter Beth Browning; daughter-in-law Janet Browning of Arizona; eight grandchildren Erik (Randi) Browning of Washington; Chrissy (Adam) Hunt, Justin (Sarah) Browning, Kurt (Brandy) Browning, Lindsey (John) Freyberger, Brooke (Jennifer) Brink, Jaycie Browning, and Hallie Browning; thirteen great-grandchildren Bryce, Nathan, Jade, Alex, Chloe, Bree, Carter, Aurora, Tatum, Jackson, Gracelyn, Jocelyn, and Oliver; lifelong friend and partner in crime, Norma Van Lue, the two were comically referred to as Lucy and Ethel; sister-in-law Elizabeth Browning; and longtime friend and caregiver, Mary Graber.
Theresa is preceded in death by her husband William J. Browning; two sons Joe and John Browning; parents Dan and Adah McAtee; brother, William “Tinker” McAtee; and great-grandchild John Carter Freyberger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00am on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Rev. Paul Ferguson as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John’s cemetery. Wake Service will be at 3:30 pm on Friday, July 12, 2019. Visitation will take place from 4:00-8:00pm on Friday, July 12, 2019, with a D of I Rosary at 7:45 pm, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and Saturday morning prior to the service.
