Commissioners fire Jasper Lumber from government center project

The Daviess County Commissioners voted to terminate Jasper Lumber as the general contractor for the court house annex project.   Commissioners Michael Taylor and Tom McCracken voted to terminate the contract in a special Tuesday meeting.  Commissioner Nathan Gabhart was absent.
The Daviess County Government Center was originally projected for completion in the spring.  The Commissioners have been frustrated as the completion date has been continually pushed back.  At last week’s regular Commissioners’ meeting, the County’s Owner Representative for the project, Mike Schapker, reported Jasper Lumber had given an end of July completion date for the building’s interior.  However work is not being done to the commissioner’s satisfaction.

County Attorney Grant Swartzentruber says termination was necessary…

Swartzentruber also talked about the legal ramifications of the termination.

Meanwhile,   Schapker says the change will have a negligible effect on the overall cost of the project.   He estimates it will take another 10 to 12 weeks before the project is completed.
At the last regular meeting, the Commissioners had voted to remove the exterior StonePly from Jasper Lumber’s contract.
