A Washington man who state police say was allegedly responsible for the death of a baby in Loogootee is now facing a more serious charge.
Bobby Leighty was originally charged with Neglect of a Dependent Causing Serious Bodily Injury. He was arrested last month after an investigation where detectives were called to look into injuries to a one month old. The child had become unresponsive while in Leighty’s care. He called family members who called 911 and the baby was eventually taken to Riley Hospital in Indy and died two days later.
The Washington Times Herald reports that an autopsy and a report are complete from Marion County and amended information filed in Martin County alleges that Leighty did not seek or provide immediate medical attention after the baby had suffered abusive head trauma. Leighty is now charged with Neglect of a Dependent Causing Death. It’s a Level 1 Felony Charge if proven means a 20 to 40 year stay in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Leighty is still jailed in Martin County on a $100,000 cash bond.
