Skeeter Dee Durnil, 51, of Washington was welcomed to heaven on August 23, 2019 with her loving family by her side. Born April 10, 1968 in Linton to Terry Lee and Arla Kay (Stormes) Helderman. She was a graduate of Central High School in 1986 and received a BA in Interior Design from Indiana State University in 1994. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, active in the women’s CRHP group and worked in the elementary cafeteria. She enjoyed spending time with her family and decorating around the house.
Dee could always lighten any situation with her witty sense of humor which left all around her with a smile. During the last few months of her life, Dee’s condition required prolonged hospitalization, where she quickly befriended many doctors, nurses, and hospital staff. These people became close to Dee and her family and her loss was felt far beyond her immediate family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Steven J. Durnil, and father Terry Lee Helderman. Dee is survived by two daughters, Kaylee Jo Durnil of Washington and Caitlin Durnil of Cleveland, OH; two sons, Jacob Durnil of Bloomington and Chris and Chelsea Durnil of Indianapolis; mother, Arla Helderman of Switz City; grandparents, Henrietta and Bruce Allen of Linton. A sister Terri and Bryan Hobbs of Fairfield, IL; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Debbie Durnil and Michael and Jill Durnil of Washington, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Fr. Paul Ferguson as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with a Christian wake service at 4 p.m.
