Washington High School is moving forward with plans to launch a College and Career Academy and is seeking partnerships with local business and community leaders to help. WHS principal Steve Peterson explained the plans to move WHS to a College and Career Academy concept at Thursday’s School Board Meeting…
Peterson said WHS students will be exposed to career opportunities that exist locally and regionally which can provide the students with the necessary tools to be successful.
The program would allow students to prepare for contemporary career opportunities at the workforce, technical, and professional levels. It would also enhance the scope of Washington’s successful early college program. Washington Superintendent Dr. Daniel Roach told the Board that the school has been in contact with several universities interested in being part of the program. An in-sight symposium for area community and business leaders is planned for October 18. The Symposium will allow the local leaders to learn about the ways the school and community can work together to create a stronger future workforce. Dr. Ben Carter Indiana Department of Education of Workforce and Innovation will give the closing comments at the Symposium.
