The firefighter accused of sexual misconduct with a minor in Terre Haute is fighting to keep his job.
Rodger Plunkett II is accused of molesting and getting sexually involved with a child under the age of 14. He was arrested in September.
Last night, the Terre Haute Fire Merit Commission held another meeting to discuss Plunkett’s future with the department. Both Plunkett’s defense and those in favor of getting rid of him have decided to table the discussion for now to allow more time for both sides to state their case.
Fire chief Jeff Fisher is backing the effort to fire Plunkett.
“This is something no boss, no chief wants to go through, to see one of your firefighters terminated for violating rules and regulations,” Fisher said. “But, we have to continue moving on the character of the department and uphold the honor of the firefighters of this department.”
Fisher clarifies the Merit Commission hearing is in no way connected to the criminal case against Plunkett. It only takes into account any fire department rules and regulations that Plunkett may have violated.
There’s no word on when the next Merit Commission hearing will take place.
