Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett led a big night for the mayors of Indiana’s largest cities. Hogsett clobbered Republican State Senator Jim Merritt with 71-percent of the vote.
Only four of Indiana’s 25 biggest cities changed parties — 10 of those races were uncontested. A total of 29 city halls across Indiana changed parties.
The Indiana Republican Party achieved a new record in this year’s municipal elections, ending with 70 Republican mayors throughout Indiana. This involved flipping 19 mayoral offices, including those in traditional Democrat strongholds Kokomo, Muncie, Logansport and Michigan City.

Over 60% of Vigo County voters said yes to a referendum supporting a new inland casino. The Indiana Gaming Commission will be taking applications from potential operators through December 1st.
Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett won a marginal victory in the Mayor’s race and will serve a 4th term. The Republican took a little over 41% of the vote in a four way race. The Independent candidate Pat Goodwin came in 2nd the Democrat Karrum Nassur finished 3rd and the other Independent candidate Shane Meehan was 4th.
