Weekend rains closed roads and prompt river flood warnings

         Weekend rains caused flooding and flash flooding throughout the area.
        Record amounts fell in some areas.  The National Weather Service reports that nearly 5 inches fell in the Washington area, 6 inches fell in parts of Southern Knox County and in the Petesrburg area.  4 to 6 reported county wide in Martin County.
        Area rivers are on the rise. The White was 5 to 6 feet above flood stage at Edwardsport and Petersburg and will crest later this week 9 to 10 feet above flood stage.
        Some roads are closed due to flooding and they are 257 south of Washington, 358 west of Plainville and Old Vincennes Road.
        The National Weather Service’s  Advance Hydrologic Prediction Service  reports the White at Edwardsport at over 21 feet and rising. It will get to 24 feet Thursday and start to fall. Flood stage is 15 feet.  At Petersburg, the White was at 22.1 feet and will get to over 25 feet on Friday.
        The East Fork White at Shoals was at nearly 20 feet and rising. It will crest at over 23 feet early Saturday.  Flood stage there is 20 feet. 
        The Wabash at the Lincoln Bridge at Vincennes is at 17 feet and will get to near 20 feet this coming weekend. Flood stage is a 16 feet.
