90 people are out of a job in Carlisle. Sunrise Coal in the Sullivan County town were laid off Monday. The company said in a press release that they had to down size with “weak market conditions” that have resulted in an “over-supply of domestic coal.” Sunrise Coal is the state’s second largest producer of coal. As part of the down-sizing, Sunrise says they will be move a good portion of production from their Carlisle operation to their facility in Oaktown in Knox County. They hope the move will save them additional money.
