Robert “Bobby” Clayton Emmons Jr., 63, passed away Friday, January 17, 2020 at his home in Washington, Indiana.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gaye (Craft)Emmons; his daughters Barbara Jean Emmons and Bobbi Jo Emmons; his grandson, Eli Ross, and his sisters Sherry Meinhart, Kimmy Armes, and Jeanne Barnard.
He is preceded in death by his father Robert Emmons, his mother Barbara (Burris) Emmons, and his sister Maria Deel.
He was born and raised in Washington and graduated from Washington High school in 1974. He met his wife, Gaye Craft, in 1975 and was married on Christmas Eve in 1977. He was a man of many trades; he was a welder early in life, and later a mechanic. After moving to Anderson, South Carolina, he became a certified automotive mechanic specializing in transmission repair, and later operated his own small garage after moving back home to Washington. For a short time he was a farmer, and then a truck driver for many years before retiring.
Bobby most enjoyed spending his time with family and his many friends. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandpa. He dedicated his life working to provide for his family. His hobbies included mushroom hunting, fishing, shooting, and tinkering with machines. He was an excellent cook; he was well known for his chili, cheeseburgers, and vegetable stew. He spent years trying to recreate his favorite coney sauce from his childhood. He especially loved playing games with his grandson, Eli. After his retirement, he spent much of his time with Eli. Without a doubt, Bobby’s personality and sense of humor will live on through Eli.
Bobby will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
A celebration of Bobby’s life is to be announced at a future date.
