Schaffer announces for County Council At-Large

          In his official press release announcing his candidacy, Madison Township resident Tom Schaffer says he plans to remain active in the community and become more involved in local government upon his retirement in July. He’s running for Daviess County Council At-Large.
         Schaffer is currently the Vice President of Turkey Operations at Perdue Farms where he’s worked for a total of 38 years. He says he’s worked extensively with the budgeting process and responsible for operating budgets exceeding 200 million dollars annually and his managerial and leadership experience qualify him for the position of County Council-At Large. 
        Schaffer will be on the ballot with longtime Council At-Large members and fellow Republicans Mike Myers and Jo Ann McCracken and current Council President Kent Norris.  Voters will vote for 3 of the four and the top three will move on to the November ballot.

Madison Township resident, Tom Schaffer, has filed for the Daviess County Council at Large seat for election in 2020. Tom has been a resident of Daviess County for over thirty years and he is employed by Perdue Farms Inc as the Vice President of Turkey operations. Schaffer’s career, at Perdue, covers thirty-eight years, where he has held numerous positions within the organization including Director of Live Operations and Complex Manager. Schaffer has been married for 36 years; his wife Elizabeth recently retired from Washington Community Schools where she taught science for 20 plus years. They have three children; TJ of Nashville TN, Travis of Washington IN, and Jenna of Jasper IN. In addition, they have three grandchildren who reside in Washington.
Tom will retire from Perdue Farms in July. He plans to remain active in the community and become more involved in local government. Through his career at Perdue, Schaffer has had the opportunity to work extensively with the budgeting process and was responsible for the financial bottom line of the turkey operation in Indiana. He has prepared, analyzed, and provided oversite for operating budgets exceeding 200 million dollars annually, while leading an operation of over 1,000 associates that provide turkey products to the retail, food service, and international markets. In addition, Schaffer has worked closely with 175 farm family partners, who produce turkeys for the operation, as well as over 100 grain producers in Daviess and surrounding counties. His vast managerial and leadership experience uniquely qualifies him to represent the tax payers of Daviess County as a member of the County Council. Schaffer’s goal is to closely scrutinize local government spending to insure your tax dollars are not only spent judiciously, but held in check or reduced when possible.
Tom’s current community involvement includes: Odon Lions Club member for the past thirty years, 25 plus year 4-H project leader, serving on the program committee for the Leadership of Daviess County program, and is a member of St Peter’s Catholic Church. In the past, he served on the North Daviess School Building Corporation, was a member of the North Daviess Young Farmers, and involved with the Frank Roberts Youth League as board member and coach. Schaffer’s professional affiliations include the National Turkey Federation and the Indiana Turkey Market Development Council.
Schaffer is looking forward to serving the residents of Daviess County on the County Council and welcomes the opportunity to share his business experience for the betterment of the county.
