An area resident was at the rally in Virginia this past week where tens of thousands of gun rights proponents from across the country rallied to express their opposition to stricter gun laws being proposed there.
Dustin Staggs of Shoals is the Pastor at the Fairview Baptist Church just outside Shoals. He says it was at a Wednesday night church service when he decided to go to the rally…
Staggs said what he witnessed was a peaceful rally. He says he did carry his weapon to Virginia but left it in the vehicle and underwent a search before being allowed in the area near the Virginia Statehouse where guns were not allowed. He said the search was pretty routine and those who conducted it were courteous and nice. He says he met a lot of law abiding gun owners and gun rights activists from just about everywhere…
Staggs says he disputes national media reports which state 22,000 people attended the rally. He says his estimation is that there were upwards to over 40,000 people there.
