Wanda (Grannan) Sanders

Wanda (Grannan) Sanders, 82, of Washington Indiana, passed peacefully with her daughter by her side on Jan. 9, 2020, at Lakewood Ranch Hospital in Florida after a long illness.
Wanda was born Aug. 10, 1937, the eldest daughter of the late Gervase and Florence (Garner) Grannan. She attended grade school at St. Simon’s Catholic School. Wanda regretted not graduating from high school. In 1986 she enrolled in the GED program offered by Centralia Community College, Centralia, Illinois. She successfully completed the program with honors and earned her GED.
Wanda was employed by US Rubber Manufacture as a product inspector, Prairie Village, as a nurses aide, Daviess County Hospital as a baker and Nolan’s Liquor Store as a manager at the Washington and Montgomery locations. Over the years, she enjoyed fishing, camping, mushroom hunting, thrift store shopping, reading, playing cards and was an avid bingo player.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, Gervase and Florence Grannan; infant brother Joseph Grannan; brother Phil Grannan; and son Richard Ping.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Kelly (Chris) Wenzel; daughter-in-law Linda Sutton Ping; four grandchildren, William Thomas Ping (Jacque), Christina Ping, Jenna Ping and Zachary Wenzel; six great-grandchildren, Cameron Clark, Brayden Clark, Colton Ping, Cheyenne Ping, Peyton Ping and Richard Ping; three sisters, Marge Donoho of Kell, Illinois, Connie Thompson of Washington, Barb Wohl of Yankton, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.
Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her children strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, at St. John’s Cemetery in Washington, with Yvonne Evans officiating. There will not be any visitation. A reception dinner in Wanda’s honor at Gasthof Restaurant, 6747 E. Gasthof Village Road, Montgomery, will follow.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.edleemortuary.com. All arrangements were entrusted to Ed Lee Mortuary.
