The Indiana House has voted 52 to 41 for a bill meant to call for more state reviews before a utility company could shut down a coal fired power plant. Two Democrats joined two Republicans voting for the bill sponsored by Republican Representative Ed Soliday of Valparaiso. He wants to slow down plant closing decisions before a task force on state energy completes a report due late this year.
At least four utilities have announced closings recently including IPL’s plans to shut down 2 of 4 units at its Petersburg site. Also Merom Generating Station announced they would close in 2023.
