Daycare legislation would expand background checks

A big loophole in day care hiring may soon be closed.
Many day cares already require criminal background checks for their employees, but that’s actually only for those in direct contact with children. Republican Chris May from Bedford introduced a bill that would require every employee to be checked at any licensed day care. The bill does not offer any funding for background checks, meaning day cares would have to cover the cost. It also does not apply to most church run day cares. The bill passed through the House and will be before the Senate next week.
