Knox County safety tips for storm debris removal

From the Knox County Emergency Management Agency
With the storm damage we received this week, many local residents
are working to clean up their property, as well as help their neighbors.
In order to clean up the community, while also continuing to prevent the spread of the COVID19 virus, residents should be reminded to follow these tips:
• As you help others, please practice social distancing and remember to keep your face
covered.
• Be aware of your surroundings. There are still numerous hanging limbs, damaged trees,
low hanging and/or downed power lines. Professional crews need to work on any
damage that involves power lines.
• Always check with your insurance company before you start any tree removal.
• If you need assistance in any debris clean up Helping His Hands Disaster Response may
be able to assist you. They can be contacted at 812-494-2888.
• Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when using any powered equipment,
including chainsaws, power trimmers, etc.
o Wear protective gear
o Keep bystanders at a safe distance
o Avoid contact with power lines
o Take extra care with cutting trees or branches that are bent and caught on
something else
Following these simple steps will help us clean up our community while continuing to help stop
the spread of the coronavirus.
