A memo this week which was issued by the Indiana State Budget Agency which told department heads to reduce spending and not to buy any vehicles or furniture.
Cristopher Johnson is the Director of the state’s Office Management and Budget, He said anticipating what is coming with the downturn in the economy, all the measures in that memo are things that he thinks have to be considered and are on the table.
Officials are keeping an eye out before they fill vacancies in state government and departments. There have been no state employee lay offs.
State revenues came in about $70 million under projections in March. That’s after February numbers showed $100 million more than the estimates for the first eight months of the fiscal year.
